Podcasts Increase Internet Marketing Sales

By Llewelyn James and Euan Agnew

Video podcasts are relatively easy to create for anyone. With the use of podcasts for internet marketing tactics, even individual marketers can present more of a personal presence.

Internet presence often lacks giving feelings that "you are there" with the customer. Viewing a podcast, potential customers get a better feel for the information presented and add a personal touch to the pitch. This yields a higher chance of a sale being closed.

People are more likely to listen to a minutes long podcast than they are to read a five hundred word factual article on products. This alone should give gravity to marketers making the choice to use podcasts in your marketing methods. Gaining the attention of more people equals success in internet marketing. The more people's attention internet marketers can get and hold, the higher sales will be.

Podcasts give your customer base an image and not only promote a product better, they promote the marketer better. Giving out updates on your products and company and providing the marketer with more choices of approaches as now their customers are also an audience. How much more appealing is a video presentation than reading and re-reading what is essentially an advertisement or catalog entry to persuade them to make a purchase. Imagination, images and text alone don't do the products or marketers the justice video podcasts will.

Ten Ways to Get More Subscribers to Your RSS Feed

By Blake Evans

If you offer content as an RSS feed, you want people not only to visit your website but also to subscribe. Here are a few ideas on how to increase subscribers to your site.

1. Make the subscription button prominent. Put the RSS button above the fold. Make the button BIG or put a lot of space around it. The point is to make it very visible.

2. Put subscription information at the bottom of each post. A viewer who reads an interesting post may just click on a link to your RSS feed subscription page under that post. They like the post, they like your site. Make the most of this moment; don't expect them to search for the RSS link. But make this link small so it doesn't compete with the post.

3. Focus on one subject, one particular topic. Viewers come to your site because you have content that interests them. They are more likely to stay-and subscribe-if all your content, not just one article, interests them.

4. Offer special content that only RSS subscribers can access. Entice readers so they will subscribe in order to see the exclusive content. Make sure the special content has value or you'll lose your subscribers.

5. Use Google Analytics to track your subscribers so you know what type of traffic you are getting and how they are getting to your site. This way you will know where to focus your recruitment efforts.

6. Consider using Feedburner, which is an RSS utility that adds value to your website's feed before sending it out.

7. Not everyone agrees on this, but full feed (showing the entire article) is probably better for getting subscribers than partial feed (showing a teaser).

8. Run a contest for RSS subscribers only. Offer a prize related to your niche. Sure, some folks will unsubscribe after the contest, but others will stay with you.

9. Offer a free gift to new subscribers-perhaps an ebook or video in your niche.

10. Be creative. Come up with new ideas for enticing readers to your site. Then give them something special so they will subscribe.

Getting subscribers is important. Keeping subscribers is crucial. RSS appeals to people who like to keep up with the latest news and information on topics they care about. Offer them useful and interesting content on current happenings in your niche. Keep your content fresh. And pay attention to your subscribers' posts to find out what they care about. Remember, they can unsubscribe at any time-it's up to you to keep them.

RSS helps you increase traffic to your site and distribute your news and information. It's a valuable way to increase the number of people who subscribe to your website.

How to Guarantee a Successful Product Launching

By Menno Spijkstra

Are you having doubts or entertaining unpleasant thoughts about your new online product to be launched? Product launching for most internet marketers can be a very challenging step to take. It is good that you are entertaining doubts and other misgivings because a good internet marketer might have thought of plans and strategies to rectify the situation should it happen. Failing to achieve the desired outcome usually results from poor strategy, incorrect planning and haste. Before actually launching your online product you must have done a thorough research and study about it. A pre-launch plan must take place before the actual launching to prepare yourself and your product for the possible outcomes.

The first thing we must do is to find our niche. Select an internet niche market on the where you can thrive, where there are buyers in it who will actually see the need for your product. You must also have an affinity for it because this might become a long term venture. Make a plan of the entire launch based on the information you have. Wisely allocate your financial resources and find ways to maximize everything you intend to use for the launch. Monitor your costs and do not go beyond your budget. Identify your potential online venture partners and contact them before hand and see if they can help you in online products promotion.

Have a pre-launch schedule and gradually sell and promote your products. Ask your affiliates to do the same. It's like testing the waters before actually making the plunge. Take things slowly and never take any decisive action during your pre-launch. Stir in a little excitement in your niche before the actual launch by advertising your product. Slowly add new elements during the process until you see a significant reaction from your niche. Prioritize the needs and the demands of your target market and work your way from this. The viability of your merchandise is largely based upon these two elements.

Another thing you should take into consideration before the launching is your list. Building your email list and maintaining it should be done way before the actual event. A successful online product launching relies heavily on the quality of the list because this is the only way you can market your product directly and intimately to your niche market. Most importantly, create a back up or emergency plan. Your emergency plan must also be in place alongside your launch plan to help you overcome your projected obstacles and losses. To sum it all up, you should invest mostly in research and strategic planning before hand.

Lay out your plan very well and see beyond your expectations. Never be too hasty and think before actually making any huge decisions. Watch closely the progress of your venture and take it from there. You have to constantly remember that the online market is ever changing, a relatively new medium that is still thriving. Your plans should be flexible and your goals attainable. Everyone should aim for a successful product launch but it would be wise not to expect too much to avoid disappointments. Carefully planning your launch is the key.

Using Video Marketing For Promoting Your Business on the Internet

By Amber Lynn

With unemployment rates at a twenty-year high and the economy in the midst of an economic recession, millions of Americans are finding it difficult to locate traditional work. This has compelled many people to go into business for themselves, and the cheapest and easiest way to establish a new business is online.

However, when new business owners get started on the Internet they quickly realize that online competition is fiercer than it has ever been. Companies can no longer just put up a web site and expect people to visit it. These days Internet business owners must be proactive, they must take steps to drive traffic (potential customers) to their web sites. But that, of course, is much easier said than done.

In recent years, many online business owners have taken to writing articles or having others write articles for them about their business, product or industry. These articles are then submitted to article directories like EZINE, which offer authors free links to their web sites. So when someone searches for a product or service in your field, there is a chance that your article will appear and a chance that the consumer might visit your web site.

Article writing is a cheap and easy way to drive traffic to you web site. However, it does have its limitations. To begin with, article directories do not allow writers to submit duplicate content, which means that your work can only appear on one directory at a time. That is one reason why many online owners have learned how to turn articles into videos.

Presently, there is no prohibition on duplicate content at any of the top video sites, which means that you can post your videos on YouTube, Meta Café or even on your own web site. In fact, you can post it where ever you want.

It is also true that video sharing sites are some of the fastest growing and most popular sites on the Internet. For instance, did you know that YouTube is now the second largest search engine on the Internet? That's right! Other than Google, there is no search engine that even comes close.

Another fact, no matter how regrettable, is that the younger generation prefers watching videos over reading articles. If, for instance, your video appears on YouTube, there is a good chance that several thousand people will view it. By comparison, there is absolutely no chance thousands of people will read your article, even if you're Stephen King.

But learning how to turn articles into videos is something many business owners are still reluctant to do. There are several reasons for this. To begin with, many of them believe that creating videos will cost them an arm and a leg. They might also assume that you have to be tech savvy to create high-quality videos or that they may not appeal to younger audiences.

All of these are, of course, misconceptions. Turning your articles into videos is not only cheap, it's easy. You can either do it all yourself, which might take a bit of trail and error, or you can contact a service.

A simple Google search will yield hundreds of companies that specialize in this procedure. All you have to do then is copy and paste your favorite article into the site and they will convert it into a video form for a small fee. After that you are free to submit them to as many video sharing sites as you please.

Article Video Robot can convert article to video in just a couple of clicks. With Article Video Robot you get animations, graphics, voice over and the chance to edit your video. You don't have to have any technical or computer skills.

How to Get on the Front Page of Social Bookmarking Sites

By Jason Nyback

Social bookmarking sites such as Digg, Netscape, Newsvine, and Reddit are frequently used by search engine marketers to attract traffic to a website. The premise is simple: when a large number of people from a social bookmarking community "like" a story, article, or blog entry listed on the site, the story gets greater prominence on the front page. Stories on the front page attract far greater numbers of reads and clickthroughs than those buried deep within the site, and are much more likely to "go viral" and spread across the Web like wildfire.

Clearly, any search marketer could benefit from having a story posted on the front-page of a popular social bookmarking site; however, most marketers struggle to gain traction and generate the number of reads required for this prominent placement. Choosing the right topic is a bit like playing the lottery. With so many articles submitted on any given day, standing out from the crowd can be a challenge.

Here's an easy way to get on the front-page of your favorite social bookmarking site: write about how to appear on the front page of results. While this may seem silly, stories about how to get listed on the main page are almost always on the front page of social-bookmarking sites. Audiences love these topics and frequently "like" these how-to articles, which pushes the content higher in the rankings. Try writing a story about how to get on the front page of your favorite social-bookmarking site, and then submit it to that site. You'll be surprised at how quickly the article climbs the ranks!

What to Sell to Make Money on eBay

By Amanda O'Brien

Many people have decided to start eBay businesses selling all sorts of different products. If you are interested in looking at how to make money on eBay then there are certain products that you should consider selling, and others that you should avoid.

Choosing products

When you choose the products that you want to sell on eBay you should be very careful. You need to choose products which are profitable and very popular. Its best if you try selling products to niches rather than trying to attract the whole market.

Market Research

One great way of finding out what people are looking for on eBay is to visit the site yourself. If you visit eBay then you will be able to search completed listings and get an idea of how much certain products are selling at.

You can also use eBay pulse to find out what products you could sell to make money on eBay.

It's important to get an idea of how much these products sell for because this will make it easier to find out whether or not you are able to make a profit. Take a look at items that you might like to sell and then find out how much they sell for. You can also identify popular items by looking at how many bids the items got.

If you are trying to make money on eBay then the products that you choose will be very important. You need to carefully think about what it is you are going to sell to make as much money as possible. Finding a supplier

After you know the sorts of products that you might like to sell you will then need to find yourself a supplier. The supplier will be either a dropshipper or a wholesaler. These are the people that stock the products for you.

Find out exactly how much these products cost because this way you will find it much easier to work out whether or not you will make a profit. Your profit margin will be the difference between the purchase price and the sale price of the item. You want to make sure that you are making a big enough profit to make selling it worthwhile.

eBay Fees

When you are trying to make money on eBay it's important to mention that you must bear in mind the eBay fees. eBay fees are split into two main categories that everyone will have to pay. Listing fees and final value fees.

Listing fees will be paid by anyone who wants to list an item on eBay. These are very cheap and are designed to prevent spam being posted on the site. Whenever you add a new listing to eBay you will have to pay a listing fee.

The final value fee will only be paid if your product actually sells. This is a percentage of the final value of the product. Make sure you take these fees into account when you are working out how much profit you will make. It really is important to be thorough and find out exactly how much you expect to make.

Where to Get Free Items to Sell on eBay

By Suzanne Arant-Wells

Freebies are not that difficult to find, especially if you have access to the internet. Have you ever thought about collecting free items to resell on eBay? If you have an internet connection, some spare time, and the willingness to do the legwork, you can find all sorts of free items to sell on eBay.

The easiest place to start is on Craigslist. Find the city nearest you on Craigslist, and look for the free section. You will be amazed at how many listings you will find for free clothing, free furniture, and free household items. The key is being the first to respond and pick up the item, so you have to check the listings frequently and act fast.

Next, check FreeCycle.org. eBay sellers differ on their opinions on using this site to procure inventory. Some eBayers say sellers should not take free items from FreeCycle - they are meant for the needy in the community. Others say that the people donating the items really don't care, they just want to get rid of their stuff for whatever reason. You'll just have to go with your gut on this one.

Participate in free-after-rebate programs. Rite Aid is a good example. Check their monthly catalog in the stores. You can rack up all sorts of free items such as cosmetics, medicines, baby products, weight loss products, and medical items. You will have to buy the item first, and submit your rebate online, and then receive a check the next month. However, the items are free after the rebate is processed.

Join freebie forums online. Members will post special deals, rebates, and coupons for free items. Collect your freebies and sell them in a batch or lot.

Check out garage sales as they are ending. Showing up late has its advantages. The person holding the sale probably isn't going to want to dispose of the leftovers, and may let you have them free if you haul them away. Having a van or a truck is helpful in this situation.

Earn Money Online With eBay

SAN JOSE, CA - JULY 20: A sign is posted in front of eBay headquarters on July 20, 2011 in San Jose, California. Online auction site eBay will report quarterly earnings today after the market closes today. (Image credit: Getty Images via @daylife)
By Jeffrey Frasco
You have been on eBay, we all have. Watching the auctions and even bidding on some. Many people have even listed some items on eBay and were amazed at how well they did. Just by collecting a few items from your attic and listing them on eBay you were possibly able to pay your car payment and even insurance that month.

It gives you a rush to watch the auctions grow and people to fight over the items you listed. The bidding wars can get intense as you see the items sell for much more than anticipated. This is one reason so many people are turning to eBay to make money online. This, and the fact that it is so simple that anyone could do it.

When you run out of stuff to sell that is lying around the house you can look into dropship companies for products. A drop ship company is a place that will have various products to sell at discounted rates. You can list these products on eBay at an increased price to earn a profit and even use their images of the product in your auction. Once the items sell you simply go to the dropshipper and pay your portion for the product, input the name and address of the buyer and they ship the item for you.

You never have to deal with a tape gun or make any trips to the post office. The dropshipper will use your company name on the packaging so you are never in the position to explain where something came from to a buyer.

This means you never have to buy anything to keep in stock and you never deal with shipping. This keeps costs on your part limited to listing fees, insertion fees, and the price of the discounted product, after it has been paid for to you of course. There is no easier way to make money online.

Making Money Through PayPal With Survey Sites That Pay Really High

By Adam Woodham

Everyone attempts to make money though PayPal from any survey site they can get their hands on. This is the worst approach, which probably means that you're using search engines to look for them. The truth is that all this does is give you lists of every bottom paying place out there, while keeping the top payments far, far away from you.

I know the quick and painless solution to all of this, though. If you really want to find survey sites that allow you to make the absolute most money through Paypal, you will need to forget about one thing: Forget about search engines. Don't even let them enter your mind when you begin looking for places to do surveys. In the past year or two, all of the higher paying place have been replaced by penny websites in those search results. The web has become so littered with these newer places that keep all the cash for themselves, pushing the higher paying and more legit websites out of the lists.

That's enough talking about that subject, though. Let me get to the really good stuff now. The way you make the most money though PayPal from the survey sites you sign up to is simple: Use forums to your advantage. Big forums to be exact. It might sounds like drastic measure to take, but it's just a necessary one. Also, it's darn easy to do and will have you signing up to all sorts of top dollar places in no more than 10 minutes. Once you get a hold of a large type of forum, head over to their forgotten about archive section. These archives are the golden ticket to top dollar surveys. Why? Because they are thoroughly filled with honest knowledge about surveys, which can be found right in those archives.

Bigger forums tend to take a ton of pride in disallowing things like spam and bad information. All of it gets squashed and deleted. You are left with 100's of topics that are filled with people just like you and I, sharing their most valuable info. It's a place where people have gathered to compare all kinds of survey sites that pay money through PayPal and you reap the benefits of their sharing. It's as simple as that. If you can read for a couple of minutes, you can begin earning 4-5 times more cash than you were getting before.

It can be a pleasure to make money through PayPal from survey sites, but not if you don't take the route that leads to the top places.

Here is a top 5 list of Internet Survey Sites that offer a PayPal Payment For Surveys.

How to Avoid Getting Double Charged Using PayPal

By Andreas Sandin

This is a common problem that seem to occur often. Many people ask me this question and until recently I had no good answer. Why does web hosting accounts get charged twice?

When an order is made, or a recurring service is being billed, an invoice is sent to the client with payment details. An invoice could be a simple e-mail instructing the client to pay funds to the hosts PayPal account via the PayPal interface, or a payment button on an invoice which links directly to the PayPal page.

When the client makes the payment, the host automatically (or manually, depending on whether or not a billing system is used) register the payment and the service is extended to the new due date.

So this seems clear, what can go wrong with this? Well, there are three parties involved.

1: The host, which sends the invoice, waits for and register payment, thus extending the service.

2: The client, which receives the invoice and makes the payment.

3: PayPal, who transfers the payed amount from the payer (the client) to the receiver (the host), and then, if the host has this set up, send payment notification to the host.

Note that the host cannot charge or bill the client. The PayPal system doesn't work this way. It is always the client who initiates payment.

In the above scenerio, it is quite possible that the host simply does not check its PayPal balance, thus never knowing that the payment is received. But this does not result in double charge. Remember the host cannot in any way draw funds from the clients PayPal account. The host may very well send invoice reminders, and suspend accounts in worst case.

So when does the problems start?

The big problem is the PayPal subscription feature. The subscription feature was created for people that makes regular PayPal payments to other people or companies. Perfectly suited for recurring amounts, such as web hosting. The PayPal subscription is also initiated by the client, not the host, and it can only be canceled by the client. With some billing systems, the host can not even see that a PayPal subscription is in place, nor see the date on which the next payment will be received.

Whenever a payment is made with PayPal, the payer is given a subscription choice. If a subscription is created, PayPal will transfer the amount every month on the date that the initial payment was made. Some hosts provide two PayPal buttons on the invoice or e-mail, one for the normal PayPal payment, and one for the PayPal subscription option.

In the PayPal subscription scenario, it is PayPal who transfers the funds according to the payers wishes. The host is only receiving the funds.

So now we have two parties responsible for transferring payments. The client making PayPal payments manually, or PayPal making the payments regurlarly according to the clients wishes.

With PayPal subscriptions, the invoice gets obsolete. The sum is always the same every time, and PayPal transfers it to the host without interaction from the client. But again, the host may not know that the client uses a PayPal subscription to pay the invoice. Some hosts suspend sites pretty quickly on non-payment, and reminds the client a few days prior to the due date that it is time to pay the bill.

The client receives the invoice reminders, thinking that its overdue, or forgetting about the PayPal subscription, and pays it. A few days later, PayPal makes the transfer according the the subscription, and thus the host is payed twice.

This has been the case in 4 out of 5 times when someone has approached me with this problem. It's not the host who charges the client twice, its the client who pays the host twice.

There is another feature that complicates things even more. Remember that the PayPal subscription payments are made automatically every month on the same date that the initial payment was done? Then consider what happens if the initial payment was made overdue.

5 Proven Tips to Reach a Niche Business Audience

Marketing to consumers with one broad brushstroke may still make sense for major brands, but for a niche business, the best way to a customer’s heart is through a more targeted approach. “The key to marketing to niche audiences is getting to know them and building relationships with them,” says Bill Corbett Jr., president of Corbett Public Relations in Floral Park, N.Y. Here are five niche marketing tips for reaching a select market segment affordably:

Time to Make Money on eBay Again

GREAT news from eBay!

It looks like they’re finally clearing the way for small-to-medium-sized sellers to make money again. FYI, here’s a quick rundown of the changes they’ve just announced.
Starting in September you’ll get better exposure in eBay’s search results AND get a 20% reduction in fees if:

  • you’re selling $3000.00 a year with 100+ sales
  • you don’t get 1 and 2 ratings on the Detailed Seller Ratings
  • you maintain a 4.6 or higher DSR average

You’ll also be rewarded if your listings have a high conversion rate — in other words your listings may not get a lot of views, but they consistently sell your items. Good news for sellers who take time to write a good title and item description; bad news for the giant Diamond sellers that don’t bother because they’ve got so much inventory!

Our eBay Mentoring Team are really excited about these changes. They say the just-introduced Top-Rated Seller designation is “realistic and achievable” for people who follow our system and use our strategies.

Coincidentally, we’ve just released the brand-new, online version of our Insider Secrets to Selling on eBay course. It’ll cover all these changes (the big advantage of being online instead of in a book) and any new ones eBay comes up with.

So if you’ve been frustrated with eBay lately, NOW IT’S A WHOLE NEW BALLGAME!

After a couple of years of making it harder and harder to make money, it looks like eBay is rewarding the sellers who made it such a powerhouse in the first place.

What do you think? Is this what you’ve been waiting to see on eBay?

Email Marketing for Dummies - 5 Tips for Getting Started

by Lyndi Lawson

In some ways, Email Marketing can be considered the founding father of eMarketing (that’s why I have now written two sets of tips on getting it right). In the good old days, before spam was illegal, before people started caring about piffling things like privacy and permission based marketing, it was easy. There were three steps: buy a database, throw together a directly self promotional message and email it to 100 000 people and then wait for a response.

Oh, how things have changed. These days, successful eMarketers do things differently, and in an ideal world, evil spammers like the notorious Reginald Tsktsk are thrown into an eternal hell of internetlessness.

Email workers

You must carefully consider any communication you send to someone's inbox.

Fortunately, there’s more to email marketing than spam and if you’re just starting out, here are some guidelines to keep in mind.

1. Plan Strategically

Like most things in life, you need to know what you’re trying to achieve before you actually achieve it. The more impulsive among us might be tempted to jump right in and send that first mail, but without clearly defined goals, you’re unlikely to benefit from it in any way at all. In fact, it may actually do more damage to your future endeavours than good.

Start by deciding on some broad goals. Are you trying to ensure that your customers are in regular contact with your brand? Or are you trying to promote a specific campaign? Generally, knowing what you hope to achieve with your mails is a good starting point. Are you hoping to encourage your readers to buy something, download something or simply get in touch with you for further information? Making these decisions will narrow down the scope of your campaign and should guide the process going forward.

2. Test, Test, Test

Planning your campaign around your goals isn’t really enough. You need to test your emails before you send them. The reasons for this are twofold. In part, testing is important because you need to ensure that your mails will bypass the spam filters. Filters like this are in place to ensure that I don’t have to read about buying generic Viagra on a Monday morning. They can however be tricky to navigate for any email sent to a large database. The other crucial reason to test your emails is compatibility. Consider the large number of browsers and email clients that are used – theoretically it’s possible that while your mail may look fantabulous when sent to gmail, it might resemble something that my dog threw up when viewed in Outlook. You need to check this in advance to prevent looking like a tool.

3. Get Your Emails White Listed and Improve Your Reputation Score

According to eMarketing: the essential guide to online marketing (the source of all reliable eMarketing information :) ) an email white list is “the list of contacts that a user deems are acceptable to receive email from and should not be sent to the trash folder.” There are a number of ways to do this, one of which is to give specific instructions in your newsletter that explains to your users how to white list your emails. This benefits the user, because they won’t miss important mails. It also benefits you, for obvious reasons.

Reputation score determines whether or not your email is regarded as spam. Reputation score is generally determined by the ISPs, so in order to arrive in a user’s inbox, your message needs to meet their standards. Tips for doing this include allowing for users to unsubscribe, maintaining your database and removing addresses that result in hard bounces. Also make use of sender authentication standards like sender ID.

4. Integrate Your Campaign With Other eMarketing Channels

I know it's something that I (and indeed all of us, quirky QuirkStars) say a lot but; a holistic approach to eMarketing is crucial to your success. Using a whole lot of tactics, without a unifying strategy and integrated goals is fruitless. Whenever you’re starting something new, decide where it fits into your overall strategy and ensure that your marketing and overall business goals are aligned. This will ultimately ensure your success.

5. Learn From Your Experiences

I know that I have rabbitted on about planning and goal setting bla bla bla - and while this is super duper important – often the only way to learn is by doing. While I am in no way advocating a rash approach to your campaign, it is beneficial to sit back and reflect after each send, particularly the early ones. To quote my favourite textbook once again, “tracking, analysing and optimising is key to growth.” After your send, look at the stats and analyse the results. This information will ensure that you reach your audience effectively, achieve the goals you set for yourself and don’t get yourself labelled an evil spammer like our good friend Reginald Tsktsk.

10 Great Ways To Use Twitter To Your Business's Advantage

by Amy Armitage

Twitter is the latest web-centric communications service to explode onto the scene, and businesses have moved in rapidly. However, a little discretion goes a long way, as the users of "social" sites and services have demonstrated that they will stomach only so much commercialization of what they consider their personal space. As MySpace evolved from an upstart new kid on the block where everyone let everything "hang out" to a part of the Rupert Murdoch media empire, people who'd had enough began looking for other places. This influenced the rise of Facebook. Now that Facebook has begun acting like a "regular old corporation," too, folks are on the search again.

Your company can most definitely benefit from using Twitter. The primary use for it in business is to listen, because, as every top-performing salesman knows, listening is more important than talking most of the time. You want to hear from every customer, vendor, client, industry leader, journalist, activist, colleague and competitor who has anything to say about your product, service or business. Twitter has much in common with old-style networking, like early morning meetings at diners and water-cooler chats, except it's been "virtualized" for 21st century knowledge sharing. With that brief introduction, let's look at 10 great ways to use Twitter to your business's advantage.

1. Listen more, talk less: If you just think of Twitter as another way to "post" your messages and advertisements, you're missing the whole point and your following will probably be nonexistent. Spend more time listening to what others are "tweeting" (posting) about you and you will gather valuable information. When you do post a message, make it something people want to know, not something you want them to know.

2. Find your niche: Twitter's uses are limited only by your imagination, or someone else's if you're fresh out of ideas. Don't think of what you can get, but what you can offer and what you can learn. You may want to share knowledge, you may want to obtain it, or you may just want to assure customers, colleagues and others that you are available to them. You will benefit to the extent that you listen and stay engaged, which means referring back to #1 a lot.

3. Develop a personality (or a few): A number of business bloggers have commented on how well Twitter works to humanize an otherwise impersonal entity like a corporation. A fresh and interesting personality attracts followers, and some successful firms even allow numerous voices to reach out from within the company's offices and cubicles.

4. Eavesdrop: There are several good tools for monitoring what is being said, starting with Twitter's own search field. Search for your term(s) and when the results are displayed, you will also get a list of the current most-popular searches (to the right) so you always know what's hot at the moment. The site monitter.com, as the name implies, was developed specifically for use with Twitter, to allow simultaneous multiple searches.

5. Build your audience: The first thing to do is post a few tweets to get a handle on how it all works, of course, and dedicate some study time to see what your competitors and companies in the same industry are doing. Make use of the "Find People" function on the top of the Twitter page to find people in your own company, your current clients and colleagues, old classmates and friends, etc. Use the "@" reply to connect directly with people, to make sure they see your tweet, and discuss matters of interest to them. When they respond with the @ reply, other folks following them may notice you and choose to follow you, too.

6. Follow the followers: You should find out who else your followers are following, as that can give you fresh insight into the types of people to seek. Use the various search methods (see #4 above) to find subjects that relate to your industry, and pay attention to who's talking about these matters. Don't be a broadcaster, be a conversationalist, and if you do Twitter right, you will build a following daily.

7. Be human: Too many people, from firms both large and small, represent their firms poorly by appearing to be robots on a fixed schedule. They crank out PR verbiage and automated data and don't offer anything for followers to grab hold of. You have to "throw them a line" or you will sail right by everyone.

8. Be polite and respectful: This means that the rules for eating Thanksgiving dinner at the neighbor's house are in effect-no politics, no religion, unless you're a politician or a clergyman, of course. These subjects have no place in a business conversation, so leave them out.

9: Play nice: Don't get emotionally involved or rant about a person, place or product. One marketing blogger called Twitter "a ship we are all traveling on," so it's important to act appropriately-or be forced to "walk the plank."

10: Stay positive: Don't be pessimistic, and don't whine or complain about what's wrong with this or that industry or the world in general. People will follow people they like, who offer something of value, who are upbeat and who stay on an even keel. Of course, some situations require a serious, even solemn approach, but those are the exceptions and should be handled delicately. Anyone can bellyache, gripe, moan and groan. A leader, on the other hand, offers solutions.

Bottom line? Twitter is a tool, and a good one, for keeping conversations going with stakeholders, potential customers, colleagues and even competitors. It takes real-time management because it's a real-time tool, but when it's done right Twitter can be an important addition to your sales, marketing and business communications arsenal.

Measuring the ROI of Online Public Relations

by Lee Odden

Measuring the return on investment from online marketing and PR efforts is essential as an indication of success as well as a feedback mechanism to guide subsequent efforts.

Determining the effectiveness of SEO for Public Relations starts with clearly identified objectives. Matching the purpose for the effort with specific metrics is essential. For example, if improving brand visibility is a goal, then documenting brand mentions in connection with news & PR content at regular intervals can demonstrate the effect of content promotion and link building.

Online PR metrics and tools often include:

* News wire service metrics (see screen capture below)
* Web analytics for landing pages and web site
* Google and Yahoo alerts
* Monitor blog search engines (via RSS)
* Press release landing page conversion tracking
* Social media monitoring
* Inbound links
* Pickups on blogs
* Pickups on other web sites & online publications
* News and Standard Search Engine Rankings
* Conversions: Less likely sales, more likely white paper downloads, webinar signups, newsletter subscriptions, demos, etc

A press release that is keyword optimized and announcing a promotional offer of some kind, should have tracking codes added to the links embedded in the release. Those links should point to landing pages designed to convert visitors from the press release to the desired outcome. Ranking is not a worthwhile metric in this case but conversions are.

Capturing various measures and key performance indicators isn’t enough to gain support for optimizing news content in many organizations. These efforts belong within the Public Relations effort and should emphasize goals consistent with PR objectives. Sometimes it takes a little creative packaging of analytics to help other departments or upstream executives “get” the value of optimizing PR content for search.

Here are a few tactics to use in order to sell the value of SEO within a PR effort:

* Show competitor social search visibility vs client/company

* Show competitor’s optimized news content ranking in various types of search engines where the company/client is not (and probably should be)

* Research a keyword glossary and run a ranking report on those phrases. Show the lack of search visibility for what search audiences are actually looking for, relevant to the business

* Run a test of a few news items, whether they be blog posts, press releases or a digital asset like video. Take a benchmark measurement first and then show progress.

* Set keyword ranking goals for news content and estimate the cost to achieve the same goals with PPC advertising over time. Demonstrate the cost of organic search traffic vs PPC traffic.

If you can’t get budget approval for an overall search campaign as part of specific PR efforts, then using a competitive example or a small scale test might be enough to demonstrate the value of incorporating SEO with Public Relations.

4 Tips for Getting More Out of Your Google Analytics Account

by Lyndi Lawson

I’ve had a fair bit of free time on my hands lately. Not the good kind, where I catch up on my reading and finally get around to organising a repair to the leaks in my roof. Oh no – it was more the lying-in-bed-in-the-throes-of-an-evil-tonsillitis-bronchitis-black-lung-viral-bacterial-mucous-ridden-hell kind. Nonetheless, it gave me some time to think, not least of all about my tips, which today are on getting more out of Google Analytics.

We’ve all heard or read the line somewhere before: the beauty of eMarketing lies in its trackability and measurability. It’s true too – except that for the less technically minded among us, it’s easier said than done. Enter Google Analytics; the free tool from Google that makes it possible for marketers to track their site statistics. Undoubtedly one of Google’s gems, this tool can nonetheless be intimidating. These pointers are aimed at making it a little less scary for new users.

Goals

Defining your site goals will help you use Analytics to reach them. Image Credit: Opododo

1. Don’t Just Set It Up; Actually Use It

Setting up accounts and profiles for tools and sites that you will never use is a common problem among techies and non techies alike. Google Analytics easily become one of those white elephant tools that you plan to go back to and never do. There are a lot of good reasons to use it. If you know what you’re doing, it can provide insights that will dramatically improve your site’s traffic and performance as well as your customer’s onsite experiences.

As I (regularly) tell my technically inept parents: when it comes to wrapping your head around something new, the best approach is to fiddle around until you have a better grasp of what tool can do. To my mucous infused brain, that sounds dirty – surprisingly, that’s unintentional. If you’re paralysed with the fear that you might break something, set up a second account to use solely for testing purposes. This way, you can master the various aspects of the tool fearlessly, and mistakes will have no impact on your ‘real’ account.

2. Optimise Your Goal Tracking

This tip assumes that your website has defined goals. These can vary from collecting newsletter signups to selling a product. Regardless of what your site goals are, setting up the tracking of these goals is crucial to your success with Google Analytics. Goal tracking is arguably the most useful thing that Google Analytics can do, because it offers insight into whether your website is converting visitors to customers or not. The process of setting up goals for your analytics profile is a simple one that involves defining your goal funnel and configuring your goals. Google has a great post that explains exactly how to do this, so I’m not going to flog a dead horse.

3. Utilise All of Your Reports

While the awesomeness of Google Analytics should not be downplayed, it nonetheless has limitations. While it will provide you with access to spiffy looking graphs, that’s where it ends – it cannot analyse the date for you. That’s part of your job. The other part is making sure that the insights you derive evolve into actionable changes and improvements to your site.

There are a vast number of reports that Analytics provides access to. While it is tempting to find one report (like the traffic report for instance) that you can easily make sense of and then stick with it, it is beneficial for you to at least explore the others. It can be really useful to see where your visitors come from geographically, which referring sites generate most of your traffic, which keywords bring people to your site, as well as the most popular content among other things. Again, the best way to avoid feeling overwhelmed by all of the data available is simply to play around with you account and get comfortable with it. You’re bound to find insight in unexpected places.

4. Don’t Underestimate The Importance of Segmentation

Segmentation is an excellent way to bring some order to your analytics data. It’s like colour coding your clothes or alphabetising your books, just a little less obsessive compulsive. Segmentation allows you to isolate bits of data and various groups so that you can view them in isolation and compare them with the whole. An example of this can be given using traffic. Should I wish to look at traffic that comes from South Africa and compare it to traffic coming from the rest of Africa or even the world, I can do so. In the event that I am trying to sell the majority of my products to international customers, this information will give me a great deal of insight. The folks at Google have been kind enough to set some of these up already, but for more specific segments, you will need to customise your own. Comprende? For more information on segmentation and the myriad of uses for it, check out this post from the horse’s mouth.

There is a lot more to Google Analytics than what I have written here. I reiterate: the best way to learn is always to do. Until you get in there and get your hands dirty, it is a tool that will not only remain shrouded in mystery but it will by and large, be useless to you.

10 Things You Should Cover In Your Social Networking Policy

When the social networking phenomenon began, many companies dealt with it by not dealing with it — they simply banned/blocked social networking sites on the company network. Like the U.S. government’s attempts at Prohibition of alcohol in the 1920s, that didn’t work so well. Today’s young workers have grown up with Internet access and come to the job with the expectation that they’ll have those resources at their disposal. If you deny them the ability to check their Facebook pages during lunchtime or tweet when they’re taking a coffee (or more likely, energy drink) break, they’ll find a way around it or leave to work for a company that has fewer restrictions.

The Cost of an Internet Marketing Education

By Gary Ruplinger

What does it really cost to learn how to become an Internet marketer and to be able to run an online business?

Well, I have good news for you. The first is that you get to learn as you go along. It's not like being a doctor where you need to spend 8-10 years in school and then several more as a resident just to learn your trade.

You can launch an online business today and start learning immediately, which means you can also make money as you go along.

However, there is a definite cost to getting your education. And one way or another you're going to pay for it. If you insist on not buying any courses or reading any books or attending any seminars, then you're just not going to make progress as fast and maybe not at all.

Fortunately, the costs aren't anything like what going to college costs. You don't have to spend $30,000 a year just to learn the basics (basically, that's what college does, right?). Heck, there are a lot of great programs that will help you learn the ropes for under $500.

I think the first course I ever bought on Internet marketing was $167, and it certainly helped me get my career as an online business owner started (I still have it on my bookshelf).

However, it wasn't the last course I ever bought. In fact, I've bought many, many more over the past several years and I will continue to do so.

I forget who said this, but it goes a little something like this, "For the true pro, school is never out."

And in the online world truer words have never been spoken. In this world things change... fast. What worked a couple years ago may no longer work or may be less effective. It's important to stay up to date.

Let's suspend all those User Questions about 'what's your favorite genre', 'who's your favorite singer', 'do you like the xyz group' 'can you live without music' ... instead, please get into the conversation, understand it, feel it, think about it, and ask a question that applies to your life, your network. Here are some examples of what I consider a really good User Questions from our most recent SpitzTunes: "Do you think powerful concert mania equates to great singers?" "Do you enjoy outdoor summer concerts or do you find them packed and crazy?" "How much would you pay for a ticket to see Michael Jackson in concert?" "When does mania go over the top?"

Cuba -- Is It Time?

Are diplomatic and economic ties with Cuba the right thing for the U.S.? Obama and supporters say "Yes"; some Cuban-Americans say "No". Broad economic sanctions against Cuba have been in place since 1962, with the original goal being to bring down Fidel Castro's Marxist regime. Has that goal been met? Is it time to change?

Must Earn Cash in Minutes - What Do You Do Now?

By Anthony Chambers

This is always a tricky one
. Does this mean you can earn cash in minutes from reading this article, or earn money in minutes from the time you buy whatever it is I may be selling? If you are left to draw your own conclusion from this headline, you may very well conclude that I am talking about the former rather than the later. Then reality kicks in.

Reality in this case, is your rational mind. How in God's earth can I earn cash in minutes from now unless I had some system for doing so already set up? The answer in this case is simple. It depends on how many minutes you are talking about. You see, one part of our brain is wired to conclude that the term "in minutes" actually means five, or ten, or even 20 minutes from now. And though this is possible, it is not very likely, unless you are very experienced at making money from systems most people do not understand or use. And although you can earn cash in 10 minutes from now, with the right information, it is more realistic to expect results in say, 720 minutes, or 12 hours from now.

The good news is that it is possible to earn cash in 20 or 30 minutes from now. So to make this more palatable, let us break this down a bit further. The assumption here is that in order to make money you have to spend some money and that for fast results we are going to use the Internet. The Internet represents access to millions of qualified people online, so it is the best medium to use for fast results.

To earn cash in minutes using the Internet, you need access to a system that is already set up and working. Think about affiliate networks. To get to the existing Internet traffic quickly, think Pay Per Click or PPC. To find the most robust, popular, and potentially lucrative PPC search engine, think Google. Now let us see how we can make this work.

Oh! There is one other thing. We need to earn cash that we can put into our bank account, and spend it as we wish, in minutes. That means that if we sell something, we must be paid immediately, not days or weeks from now. After we get the money, there must be a way to pull that cash into our bank accounts quickly, and possibly have access to that cash via debit card shortly thereafter.

If this scenario sounds ridiculous, it is not. There are many genuine business opportunities online these days that will pay you immediately for sales you make. Some of these are found at pay dotcom and other networks. Payment processors like PayPal will allow you to pull cash from your PayPal account into your bank account very quickly. You may not be able to earn cash online and then hold the literal money in your hands in minutes, but you can earn cash in minutes form now, and then use that cash to buy the goods and services you want, in minutes from how. Yes! I am talking about 15 or 25 minutes from now.

Here's another clue. When you are searching for ways to earn cash in minutes, look for programs that use something called the rapid action script. You will be amazed how many marketers use it to pay their affiliates instantly.

Obama -- Health Care -- Help!?

People in the U.S. spend $2.4 trillion a year on health care, or about $7,900 per person. That's more than twice as much per capita as in other advanced countries. But few would claim those dollars are buying good value. The costs are a staggering burden for taxpayers, employers and families, and the recession is leaving more people without insurance.
Three perspectives on the Health Care issue: The main problem with the health care system is that costs keep going up -- We don't need to rip up the existing health care system and start over -- Decent health care ought to be a basic right.

SpitzTunes -- Concert Mania!

Mania- what is it? "excitement manifested by mental and physical hyperactivity, disorganization of behavior, and elevation of mood" ... you know when you see it, feel it, participate in it ... live performances generate the heat ... not all of them ... but concert mania happens when artsts like the Beatles, Cream, Rolling Stone, Michael Jackson, U2, Metallica, and even Miley Cyrus take the stage ... let's talk about the kind of mania that makes us feel really good!

Promoting Your Product and Increasing Sales - 7 Secrets to Know

By Linda Keefe

Do you want to make money with online marketing, but are frustrated because sales are not what you want them to be? You have one or more products, but they're not flying off the shelf. So, the question is, what is the best way to get people to buy?

Here's a seven step system that works. You'll want to use multiple ways to gently, and consistently, introduce your product to those who are interested in what you have to offer.

When you think about it, it's a lot like gardening: you plant a seed (the product) and then nurture and care for it until it blossoms. You don't just walk away from it, letting it fend for itself. People often do that with their products. They put them on the shelf (or on the web) and then leave them, expecting them to sprout revenue all by themselves.

So, get busy and start nurturing your crop of products in these seven places:

* Step #1: Thank You Page. Your first chance to introduce a product is when someone signs up to be in your list. The thank you page that immediately follows the OptIn page and delivers the "free gift" you promised, is a great place to add a small product statement such as, "If you like this, you may also be interested in . . .". Make the last few words a link to your product long letter page.

* Step #2: Auto-responding Message. Once people sign up for your ezine, make sure the initial auto-responding message they receive includes another phrase similar (or identical) to the one above such as, "If you want to move forward quickly, check out this tool". Again, make the final part of the sentence a link to the description page of your product.

* Step #3: A Product Message. Then have a second message that goes out in the auto-responder immediately -- and make it all about your product. Keep it short and to the point. Don't tell everything you know, but rather entice them to click on the link to the long letter that asks them to buy.

* Step #4: An Ezine's Recommend Section. Write a brief paragraph about what your product can do for the reader, emphasizing the benefits. Put it in a special section at the end of the ezine, under a title such as The Maven Recommends or Linda Recommends. Be sure to arouse curiosity, so the reader will want to click on a link to the long letter describing your product. You don't want to succumb to describing the product in the ezine itself.

* Step #5: Free Teleseminar. The best way to sell product is to talk to a prospect in a live situation so you can build trust, respect and excitement. And if you can, do an event. But the next best way to develop relationships, is to offer free teleseminars. People hear your voice, your style, your personality. They are much more inclined to make that decision to buy.

* Step #6: Solo Emails. You use solo emails (single messages to send to your list -- also known as broadcasts) as a way to promote the teleseminar and to follow up after it -- to continue reminding the attendees of the product they can buy from you. Send three to five announcing the teleseminar, with another three to five afterward, spacing them out over a week or two.

* Step #7: Website Listing Products. Once you have people opting into your list, you want them to be able to see all the products you have available. Create a simple website that has links to the long letters for each of the items you offer. Keep posting that web site in the promotions that you send as a credit so that folks can find your stuff easily when they are ready. Remember though, don't send new people to this website, always funnel them through your option page.

FREE and Powerful Way to Promote Your Website Through Link Exchange

By Ivana Katz

What is a Link Exchange?

Link exchange is an extremely powerful marketing strategy whereby a website owner exchanges links and banners with websites that have similar content.

Why should I exchange links?

There are several reasons that you should exchange links with other businesses.

Results in search engines are determined by the material you have presented on your site and by other off-page factors such as how many other sites link to your website. The more links you have pointing to your site from relevant websites, the higher your site will rank.

Exchanging links will drive valuable targeted traffic to your website when visitors follow a link from your link partners.

Your website will become a valuable resource for your visitors, as it will provide information they need. They may return to your site over and over to find more information.

How do I request links?

First, find websites whose business complements yours and add their website to your links/resource page. Rather than just placing a simple link, it's a good idea to also include the business name, brief description and logo if possible.

Once the link is on your website contact the company and ask for a reciprocal link. For example if you are a wedding dress designer, you could contact businesses that sell wedding cakes, jewellery, flowers and also venues, celebrants etc.

Types of link exchanges

1. One-way Links

One way links are links that point to your site from others, but which are not linked to from your website. Google and many other search engines include link popularity as part of the way they evaluate and rank websites. Links are seen as a positive "vote" towards the quality of the website. As such, the more links from other relevant websites to yours, the better.

One way to get great links to your website is to submit articles and PR releases to other websites and article/news directories or use Social Bookmarking and Social Networking websites.

2. Reciprocal Links

Reciprocal links, also known as 'link swaps', 'link exchanges' and 'link partners' are two way links between two websites. They not only drive traffic to your website, but also help with search engine ranking.

It is particularly important to exchange links with websites that have a high Page Rank. Page Rank is a value that Google gives to a web page based on the importance of the page that is determined by the number of incoming links to that web page. You can see your website's Page Rank on the Google Toolbar, which can be downloaded from:

http://toolbar.google.com

3. Triangular OR Three Way Links

Three way link is whereby Website 1 links to Website 2 who links to Website 3 who links to Website 1 and so on. The ultimate goal is to never have two websites link to each other, which is considered reciprocal linking and less effective in boosting search engine rankings.

Link exchanges are very important if you want to drive quality traffic to your website and help rank your website at the top of the search engines. Although it can be time consuming, link exchanging is very powerful. If you have limited time, you can employ the services of a link exchange company. Simply search for "link exchanging" in your favourite search engine.

How to Make a Quick Buck Online

By Roger Haisley

"Make money online" - Type those words in any search engine and millions of search results appear. And is there any wonder? Not only is the prospect of making money from the comfort of your own home extremely appealing but it should also be noted that the internet is a very powerful commercial tool that is available to virtually everyone. There are many ways to make money online, Here I'll highlight the quickest and easiest methods.

Affiliate Marketing

Well this is definitely one of the easiest ways to make some quick cash online. You don't need to have your own product or service, you just find a company that offers a product that is in high demand and focus on selling as an affiliate for that company, it really is quite straight forward. To find which products are of high demand consider using keyword popularity tools such as Wordtracker. Some of the top affiliate networks include Commission Junction, LinkShare & ClickBank (my personal favorite). Affiliate marketing tied in with a well planned pay per click advertising campaign is definitely one of the easiest and most exciting ways to make money online.

Selling Advertising Space

If you already have a website that gets a reasonable amount of visitors per day, this is a great option. You can probably realize why this is easy money, you do no work; you just collect the advertising fees . If you do have a website it may also be wise to consider allowing Google to place ads on your page, this is called AdSense and you earn money every time someone clicks an ad on your website. Now if you happen to have a number of high traffic websites you can actually make a small fortune from AdSense alone.

Paid Surveys

Here's another quick money maker. Of course there are some people who don't favor this method, but if you know what you're doing you can make a good amount of cash by doing paid surveys and it usually won't take up much time. Many people don't make enough use of this method, however I highly recommend it.

Well...what are you waiting for: pick a method and go launch your campaign today!
